Protecting Your Images From Theft

Sharing images on the web comes with considerable risk. Its like walking on a tightrope. On one side you are at risk of having your image stolen if it is posted at too high a resolution. On the other side, if you publish smaller resolution images then your viewers can not enjoy the richness and detail that you lovingly crafted in your image.

The Piqsure Viewer was designed to protect your images against theft. It uses multiple techniques. These include:

Persistent Watermarking

The Viewer will let you apply a watermark to any corner of the image. This is always displayed in the location. Its always on the screen. You, the creator, control how subtle or in-your-face you want the watermark to be. Piqsure only specifies the technical aspects of the image to use as a watermark. No “Save” Button

Many images served by the web let you “right click” on the image the save a copy of the file to your disk. Some web sites disable this function, but that doesn’t mean your image is safe — by looking at the HTML source a clever thief can find the URL for the image and save it.
Piqsure doesn’t have this fatal flaw. The Piqsure Viewer interacts dynamically with the web server. It does not have embedded image URLs that a clever thief can download. The Piqsure Viewer operates as a program that calculates in real time what portions of the image it wants to display and requests those.

Limited Data Downloads

The Piqsure Viewer never downloads the entire image file. It simply requests information for the subset of the image that the user wants to look at and enjoy.

Piqsure’s technical team is working on adding additional ways to protect your images. They are considering two different ways to use encryption to further protect your images. The team is also working on ways to embed an invisible digital watermark to your images to be able to search popular or specific photo websites identify if your images have been improperly added to their collections.
